GMDA Floats ₹755Cr Tender for Signal-Free Elevated Corridor on SPR from Vatika Chowk to NH-48

Project aims to develop a 4.2 km elevated corridor and strengthen connectivity between Dwarka Expressway, NH-48 and the Gurugram-Sohna Elevated Corridor

Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has floated a tender for the development, maintenance, management and operation of Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) from NH-48 to Vatika Chowk via an elevated corridor. The project will be undertaken at an estimated cost of ₹755 crore and is expected to significantly strengthen connectivity along this key corridor in the city.

A department spokesperson said the project involves the upgradation of SPR into a signal-free corridor between Vatika Chowk and NH-48, providing a long-term solution for improving mobility and managing increasing traffic volumes in Gurugram. The elevated corridor will reduce congestion at the ground level by creating an additional traffic layer, thereby easing bottlenecks and improving travel time, particularly during peak hours.

"Gurugram is witnessing rapid urban expansion, and the development of high-capacity road infrastructure remains a key priority to support the city’s growing mobility needs and sustain its economic growth. The proposed infrastructure upgrade will benefit residents and commuters from several sectors located along and around the SPR corridor, including newly developing residential and commercial clusters. This project is part of the Authority’s continued efforts to strengthen Gurugram’s road infrastructure and create a more efficient and future-ready urban mobility network,” said CEO GMDA, Sh. P.C. Meena.

As part of the project, a 4.2 km-long signal-free 4+4 lane elevated corridor will be developed between Vatika Chowk and NH-48. The design also includes 3+3 lane primary service roads and 2+2 lane secondary service lanes, along with two-lane up and down ramps at key junctions to ensure smooth entry and exit of traffic. An interchange at NH-48 will also be constructed to provide seamless connectivity with the national highway network.

Additionally, an interchange at Vatika Chowk has been proposed as part of Phase II of the project, which will further enhance connectivity between Southern Peripheral Road and the Gurugram-Sohna Elevated Corridor.

Southern Peripheral Road has emerged as one of the most important east–west mobility corridors in Gurugram, connecting several residential and commercial sectors with major arterial roads and national highways. With rapid development taking place along this stretch, there is an enhanced need for improved road infrastructure and efficient traffic management.

The project, upon completion, will provide high-speed and seamless connectivity between Dwarka Expressway, NH-48 and the Gurugram-Sohna Elevated Corridor, strengthening the overall road network of the city. It will also help reduce congestion at key junctions including Vatika Chowk and Subhash Chowk, while improving traffic circulation along the SPR corridor.

At present, commuters travelling from Dwarka Expressway or southern Gurugram/Jaipur towards Sohna or Faridabad often have to pass through internal city routes via Rajiv Chowk or Subhash Chowk to access major highways. The proposed corridor will provide a more direct alternative route, thereby reducing travel time and easing pressure on busy intersections within the city.

The elevated corridor has therefore been planned keeping in view the future traffic requirements of the rapidly developing sectors along the SPR corridor and is expected to benefit residents and commuters from several adjoining areas by improving connectivity to major highways and key employment hubs. The project will be completed within a stipulated period of 30 months from the date of award.
