As AI-generated content continues to flood the internet, Google has announced a major expansion of its AI detection technology, SynthID, to help users identify whether images, videos, or audio clips are real or AI-generated.

The tool, developed by Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc., was previously limited to the Gemini AI app. However, the company has now confirmed that SynthID will soon be integrated into Google Search and the Chrome browser as well.

The announcement was made by Sundar Pichai during Google’s annual I/O event in California. Pichai said maintaining transparency has become increasingly important at a time when AI-generated content is rapidly spreading across the internet.

During the event, Pichai showcased a viral AI-generated image featuring himself along with Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, and Sam Altman eating at McDonald’s. In a humorous remark, Pichai clarified that the image was fake because he does not eat hamburgers.

He also admitted that it is becoming increasingly difficult for ordinary users to distinguish between real and AI-generated visuals. According to him, tools like SynthID could play a crucial role in helping users verify digital content and prevent misinformation online.
