Punjab Newsline, Shimla-
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today stressed that while modernization is essential in the present context, excess in any form must be avoided. “Over-modernization leads us away from our natural identity. We should certainly embrace modernity, but it must happen while preserving our inherent character and natural growth,” he said.
The Governor was speaking as the chief guest at the Annual Prize Distribution Function of Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (R.K.M.V.), Shimla, today. He commended the college for its remarkable achievements, noting that it is not only a center of learning but also a beacon of women’s empowerment. He said the students of the college have excelled not only in academics, but also in sports, culture, research, NCC, NSS and various social initiatives.
“India is moving forward today with renewed confidence, and at the core of this progress are our daughters,” Shri Shukla said. “Where women’s respect and capability grow, society and the nation prosper. The way students of this institution are advancing in leadership, science, art, technology and administration is truly inspiring for the State.”
He urged students to learn new technologies, adopt innovation and research, uphold environmental conservation and maintain values, sensitivity and social responsibility. He added that due to strong national leadership, the country is progressing swiftly. Referring to a recent remark by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin that “whatever Prime Minister Narendra Modi thinks, he accomplishes,” the Governor said that the people of India should have full confidence in such leadership and remain committed to the principle of Nation First. “The country must be secure for its citizens to be secure,” he asserted.
The Governor expressed satisfaction that R.K.M.V. is the only college in the state formally registered with the Youth Red Cross, reflecting its commitment not only to education but also to humanitarian values, service, compassion and social responsibility. He appreciated the institution’s continuous efforts toward drug prevention and awareness campaigns. “The college runs regular initiatives to sensitize society about the harmful effects of drug abuse, particularly among youth, and its guidance activities provide positive direction,” he noted.
He especially praised the college’s “Anti-Chitta Campaign,” stating that drug abuse, particularly the spread of synthetic drugs like ‘Chitta,’ is a grave challenge in Himachal Pradesh, and R.K.M.V.’s efforts in combating it are commendable and inspiring. He appreciated the street play presented by the college girls against drug addiction.
The Governor further said that the college has successfully aligned itself with the National Education Policy and developed into a model institution. He expressed happiness that R.K.M.V. has emerged as a powerful platform for students coming from tribal and rural regions, describing it as an outstanding example of inclusive education that lays the foundation for a balanced, dignified and enlightened society.
Earlier, Principal Dr. Anurita Saxena welcomed the Governor and presented the annual report of the college. Dr. Surender Sharma, Dean, Student Welfare, proposed a vote of thanks.
