Senior Ministers, Congress Leaders and Officials Attend Ceremony at Shimla Ridge

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid floral tributes to India’s first woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, on her birth anniversary at the historic Ridge in Shimla on Tuesday. Remembering her immense contribution to the nation, he said that Indira Gandhi’s visionary leadership provided India with a strong foundation and significantly strengthened the country during crucial phases of its development.

The Chief Minister noted that Indira Gandhi’s life and political journey were marked by decisive actions that shaped modern India. He said her policies played a crucial role in the upliftment of the poor, women, and marginalized communities. “Her role in poverty alleviation, economic reforms, the nationalisation of banks, increasing agricultural productivity, employment generation, and social empowerment is unparalleled,” Sukhu said while addressing the gathering.

He added that Indira Gandhi’s commitment to national unity and integrity remained unwavering throughout her life. “She sacrificed her life to protect the unity and integrity of our country,” he stated, remembering her courage and resilience during periods of internal and external challenges. The Chief Minister emphasized that her forward-looking decisions not only ensured India’s stability but also laid the groundwork for long-term growth and self-reliance.

Sukhu highlighted that Indira Gandhi’s leadership during critical moments—such as the Green Revolution, strengthening India’s defence capabilities, and promoting scientific advancement—left an indelible mark on the nation’s progress. He said her legacy continues to inspire generations and remains deeply embedded in India’s political and social fabric.

The birth anniversary event saw the presence of several senior ministers, Congress leaders, government officials, and party workers. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Pradesh Congress Committee President Pratibha Singh, Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, and MLAs Sanjay Rattan, Harish Janartha, Malender Rajan, and Ranjit Singh Rana were also present.

Chief Minister’s Principal Advisor (Media) Naresh Chauhan, HIMUDA Vice Chairman Yashwant Chajta, Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, municipal councillors, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, and Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi also participated in the floral tribute ceremony. Their presence reflected the collective respect shared across the government and party leadership for Indira Gandhi’s enduring contribution to the nation.

The event concluded with leaders reiterating the importance of carrying forward the values and vision promoted by the former Prime Minister. They emphasized the need to stay committed to inclusive development, national unity, and social justice—principles that defined Indira Gandhi’s leadership. Her birth anniversary served as a moment of reflection, honour, and inspiration for all present at the ceremony.
