Haryana government is considering a major reform in the Revenue Department to tackle staff shortages and improve the availability of patwaris in villages across the state. During a cabinet meeting that lasted nearly two hours, ministers discussed a proposal to reduce the training period for around 2,600 newly recruited patwaris from 18 months to 12 months.
The government believes that the lengthy training process has delayed the deployment of a large number of selected patwaris in the field. By shortening the training duration, authorities expect faster disposal of pending revenue-related work, including land records, mutations, jamabandi updates, and other land-related services.

According to the proposal, the revised 12-month training programme would include six months of skill development and six months of field training. The monthly stipend provided during training may also be increased from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000, a move aimed at reducing dropout rates among trainees.
The training of the newly recruited patwaris has been underway since January 2025. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had earlier announced the reduction in training duration during a Patwari Conference, and formal approval could now be on the horizon.
The cabinet agenda also included a proposal to extend the claim submission deadline under Dayalu Yojana-I. At present, beneficiaries must file claims within three months in cases of death or disability. The government is considering extending this period to six months to provide greater flexibility to eligible families.
In addition, the Haryana government reviewed the draft of a new teacher transfer policy. The proposed policy has sparked controversy after the Education Department recommended removing the 10 bonus points currently awarded to unmarried female teachers. The draft has been submitted to the government and was expected to be discussed during the cabinet meeting.
Following the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini joined a BJP legislative party meeting along with his ministerial colleagues. However, the government has not yet officially announced the decisions taken during the cabinet deliberations.
