Political activity surrounding the civic body elections in Haryana has reached its peak as campaigning officially ended on Friday evening. Voting for seven urban local bodies and several panchayat seats will be held on May 10 from 8 AM onwards.

A total of 614 candidates are in the fray for the elections. Polling will take place for mayoral and ward councillor posts in Ambala, Sonipat and Panchkula. Elections will also be conducted for president and councillor posts in municipal bodies of Rewari, Uklana, Sampla and Dharuhera.

Alongside civic polls, elections will also be held for one Zila Parishad seat, four Panchayat Samiti seats, 24 sarpanch posts and 28 panch seats. Meanwhile, 290 candidates for sarpanch, panch and Panchayat Samiti member posts have already been elected unopposed.

By-elections for one ward each will also be conducted in Tohana, Jhajjar, Rajound, Tarawadi, Kanina and Sadhaura.

According to election officials, 44 candidates are contesting for mayor and president posts, while 570 candidates are fighting for councillor seats. The election process had officially begun with the announcement made on April 13.
