Haryana Government Removes Shatrujeet S. Kapur as DGP, Appoints O.P. Singh as Officiating Chief

Punjab Newsline,Chandigarh

The Haryana government on Monday removed Shatrujeet S. Kapur from the post of Director General of Police (DGP) and appointed senior IPS officer O.P. Singh as the officiating DGP of the state. The decision marks a significant administrative reshuffle in the state’s top police leadership and is seen as a preparatory step toward the appointment of a regular, full-time DGP.

According to official sources, the change has been made as part of an interim arrangement to ensure continuity in police administration while the process for selecting a permanent DGP is initiated. O.P. Singh will hold the charge until a new full-time DGP is appointed following due procedure.

Shatrujeet S. Kapur, who was serving as the DGP, has been moved out of the position with immediate effect. While no specific reasons were publicly cited for the change, officials described it as an administrative decision taken in the larger interest of governance and law enforcement management in the state. Such reshuffles at senior levels are not uncommon and are often aimed at streamlining administrative functioning.

The appointment of an officiating DGP has effectively cleared the path for the state government to begin the formal process of selecting a regular police chief. Sources indicated that the government is expected to initiate consultations and follow the prescribed guidelines for the appointment, including preparation of a panel of eligible officers.

O.P. Singh is a senior Indian Police Service officer with extensive experience in policing and administration. His appointment as officiating DGP is intended to ensure stability and smooth functioning of the police force during the transition period. He is expected to oversee routine law and order responsibilities and ongoing policing operations across the state.

The development comes at a time when the state government is focusing on strengthening administrative efficiency and ensuring effective law enforcement. Officials emphasized that the interim arrangement would not affect day-to-day police functioning and that the government remains committed to appointing a regular DGP at the earliest.
