Haryana and Rajasthan on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Yamuna Water Project during a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that several rounds of discussions had been held between Haryana and Rajasthan under the leadership of Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to finalize the project. Under the newly signed agreement, Rajasthan will receive surplus rainwater available in Haryana during the monsoon months of July to October through a dedicated pipeline for drinking water purposes.

He said the project will involve the construction of a pipeline from the Hathnikund Barrage to Rajasthan, enabling the transfer of surplus Yamuna water and strengthening water security in the neighbouring state.

Describing the agreement as a significant milestone, the Haryana Chief Minister said providing water to regions facing shortages is a collective responsibility. He assured Haryana's full cooperation and said the state would ensure that no hurdles delay the implementation of the project.

Saini added that all technical and administrative aspects of the project were discussed extensively before the MoU was finalized. He also expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma for their efforts in facilitating the agreement.

Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi and other senior officials were also present during the meeting.
