Heavy rainfall lashed Himachal Pradesh's capital, Shimla, on Friday, causing widespread disruption and damage in several areas. A tree fell on a car at Barhai village near Sankat Mochan, while five vehicles, including a school bus, were buried under debris following a landslide in Lower Dhalli.
Another tree collapse was reported from the Jakhu area as continuous rain affected normal life across the city. Overflowing drains and mud washed onto roads led to traffic disruptions and increased the risk of further landslides.
Apart from Shimla, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in Kangra, Chamba, Rohru, Sarahan, Rampur, and Mashobra. However, residents of the plains, including Una, Hamirpur, and Bilaspur, continued to face hot and humid weather conditions.
According to the Shimla Meteorological Centre, light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue at isolated places across Himachal Pradesh until June 30. Strong winds are also expected in some areas during this period.
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in several parts of the state on July 1 and July 2. It also stated that there is unlikely to be any significant change in minimum and maximum temperatures across most regions of the state over the next four to five days.
