The last day for liquor contracts in Punjab for the financial year 2025–26 is being observed today, prompting contractors to slash prices to clear old stock. As a result, heavy crowds were witnessed at liquor vends across Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Bathinda, Pathankot, and Mohali.
Even customers who typically purchase one or two bottles were seen buying full cases. According to contractors, prices have been reduced by 30 to 50 percent for today only. This has led buyers to shift their preference from cheaper options to premium brands available at discounted rates.
In Chandigarh, liquor prices have also dropped, but footfall remains low. A major reason is the strict checkpoints set up by Chandigarh Police at multiple locations. Since carrying an entire case by an individual is considered illegal, many people are hesitant to make purchases.
Popular brands such as Imperial Blue, Royal Stag, and Old Monk are now available between ₹300 and ₹350 per bottle. Meanwhile, Royal Challenge and All Seasons are priced around ₹400.
Among premium options, Blenders Pride and Antiquity Blue are available in the ₹500–₹600 range. In the luxury and imported segment, Johnnie Walker Red Label is selling at ₹1200, Johnnie Walker Black Label at ₹2200, and The Glenlivet 12 Year Old at ₹2700.
For beer lovers, Kingfisher Beer and Budweiser are available between ₹150 and ₹200, compared to their earlier price range of ₹220 to ₹250.
