The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old senior constable Gurwinder Singh and his son, Jot Singh. His wife, Harpreet Kaur (36), and their other son, Dilshan Singh, are undergoing treatment.

Gurwinder Singh was posted as the gunman of the Mansa Deputy Commissioner and had been on leave for the past two days.

Incident Took Place Between 6:30 am and 7 am

The incident took place between approximately 6:30 am and 7 am in Nidhan Singh Nagar, Ward No. 5, Mansa. According to preliminary information, Gurwinder Singh allegedly opened fire on his wife and both sons before turning the weapon on himself.

Hearing repeated gunshots, neighbours rushed to the house and found all four family members lying injured. They immediately took the victims to the Civil Hospital in Mansa for medical treatment.

Civil Surgeon Dr Ranjit Rai said the injured were brought to the hospital at around 7 am. Despite medical efforts, Gurwinder Singh and his younger son, Jot Singh, succumbed to their injuries. Harpreet Kaur and Dilshan Singh were referred to AIIMS Bathinda due to their critical condition.

Family Had Moved Into New House a Day Earlier

According to available information, Gurwinder Singh had moved into his new house on Monday, just a day before the incident. However, construction work at the house was still incomplete, and the family's belongings had not been fully shifted.

The police have sealed the house and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Preliminary police findings suggest that a domestic dispute may have been behind the shooting. However, the exact motive has not yet been established and will become clear only after the investigation is completed.
