Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump met and exchanged a handshake at the G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains, France, marking their first in-person interaction in around 16 months.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the high-profile global gathering, where both leaders are expected to hold formal bilateral discussions.
The interaction comes after a long gap since their last meeting in February 2025, shortly after Trump assumed office. Their brief meeting at the summit is being seen as an important diplomatic moment, with both sides scheduled to discuss key issues including trade, strategic cooperation, and global security challenges.
The G7 Summit in France has brought together leaders of major economies to address pressing global concerns such as ongoing conflicts, energy security, and international economic stability.
