Nearly nine years after the sensational murder of Ekam Singh Dhillon, a local court has sentenced his wife, Seerat Kaur, to life imprisonment in a case that had shocked the region due to its brutal nature.
The crime dates back to March 19, 2017, when the body of 40-year-old Ekam Singh Dhillon, a 6.3-foot-tall auto driver, was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase measuring approximately 2 by 2.5 feet. The suitcase had been placed on the rear seat of his BMW car, which was parked in Phase 3B1.
Investigators said the victim's body had been folded in an extremely brutal manner to fit inside the suitcase, leaving even experienced police officers stunned at the crime scene. The post-mortem examination confirmed that Dhillon died from a gunshot wound.
During the investigation, police also found that attempts had been made to erase blood stains and other forensic evidence from the house after the murder.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Hardeep Singh convicted Seerat Kaur under charges of murder, destruction of evidence, and violations of the Arms Act. The court sentenced her to rigorous life imprisonment under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and imposed a fine of ₹50,000.
