Kang Demands law for Dope Test and mandatory medical certificate of the groom before marriage
Punjab Newsline, New Delhi/Chandigarh-
AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang raised a very serious and sensitive issue concerning the safety of the country’s daughters and sisters. Expressing deep concern over the rising number of divorce cases and domestic violence in present-day society, he urged the central government to introduce strict reforms in marriage-related laws.
Addressing Parliament, Malvinder Singh Kang said that the trend of marriages breaking and families being destroyed is continuously increasing in our country. He added that this problem is not limited to Punjab alone, but is affecting families across the entire country.
Targeting the double standards in society, he said that before marriage, we closely scrutinize the girl’s education, character, and family background, but when it comes to the boy, we turn a blind eye. Issues such as substance abuse, serious illnesses, and criminal tendencies that come to light in men after marriage are ruining countless lives.
Kang appealed to the Government of India and all state governments to take immediate and strict steps in this direction. He demanded that a ‘dope test’ for the groom be made mandatory before issuing a marriage certificate. He also called for making a ‘medical fitness certificate’ legally compulsory for the groom prior to marriage.
Kang stated that this small reform could prove to be a major protective shield for the women of our country.
