In the Nikki Bhati murder case, reports of an alleged settlement reached through a panchayat have led to silence from both the victim’s parental and in-laws’ sides. According to villagers, the panchayat meeting was held without involving residents of Rupwas village, which has triggered dissatisfaction among the local community.
Public anger had earlier erupted following Nikki Bhati’s death, with protests demanding justice. However, reports now suggest that both families have agreed to a compromise, with the victim’s family allegedly deciding to withdraw the case through the panchayat.
Sources claim that as part of the understanding, the in-laws purchased a plot in Rupwas village for Nikki’s sister, Kanchan. It is also being discussed that Kanchan may continue living in Rupwas village with her husband instead of returning to her marital home. Additionally, there is an alleged agreement to transfer property ownership in the name of Nikki’s children.
The case dates back to August 21, 2025, when 26-year-old Nikki Bhati died under suspicious circumstances after being allegedly set on fire in Sirsa village. The family had accused her in-laws of dowry harassment and domestic dispute leading to her death.
Following the incident, police arrested the main accused, her husband Vipin Bhati, on August 23, 2025, after an encounter. Later, her mother-in-law Dayawati, father-in-law Satyaveer, and brother-in-law Rohit Bhati were also arrested but were granted bail by the Allahabad High Court. Vipin Bhati remains in jail, and his bail plea is currently under hearing.
According to reports, discussions between both sides had been ongoing for nearly a month, with a final understanding reached in a panchayat around 20 days ago. Nikki’s father, Bhikhari Singh, is reportedly silent on the matter, along with other family members.
Under the alleged settlement terms, it is also claimed that financial support for the family, property transfer for the children, and continued financial benefits from rental income have been agreed upon. It is further suggested that Kanchan may remain in Rupwas village with her children instead of returning to Sirsa village.
