Panic buying erupted at a petrol pump in Sector-17 of Chandigarh after a notice claiming limits on fuel sales went viral on social media. Long queues of vehicles were seen outside the pump as people rushed to fill their tanks fearing a possible shortage of petrol and diesel.
According to reports, a poster was suddenly put up at the petrol pump early in the morning stating that two-wheelers would be given fuel worth only Rs 500, while cars would receive a maximum of Rs 1,500 worth of fuel. A picture of the notice was shared on X by user @rishuraj_chd, triggering widespread concern among residents.
As the news spread rapidly online, panic buying intensified and crowds gathered at the fuel station. The petrol pump owner later clarified that the notice was issued due to a temporary shortage of fuel stock at the outlet and was meant to manage limited supply until fresh stock arrived.
Amid growing confusion, Nishant Yadav stepped in to reassure the public. He stated that the Chandigarh Administration had not issued any order imposing restrictions or limits on the sale of petrol or diesel in the city.
Following strict intervention by the administration, the misleading posters were immediately removed from the petrol pump to prevent further panic among residents.
