A major case of cyber fraud under the guise of online trading has come to light, with fraudsters allegedly cheating a doctor of ₹1.10 crore. The Cyber Crime Police Station in Sector 17 has registered an FIR and initiated an investigation into the matter.

According to the complaint, Dr. Rakesh Prabhugaud Patil, a resident of Sector 38, said he began exploring stock market investments through social media in December 2025. In January 2026, he was added to a WhatsApp group where members encouraged him to invest money, promising high returns.

The accused, including the group admin and other members, allegedly lured him with lucrative profit assurances and persuaded him to transfer funds into multiple accounts. The doctor reportedly made around 25 transactions, investing a total of ₹1.10 crore. Initially, the app showed fake profits, but when he attempted to withdraw the money, he was asked to deposit additional funds.

Later, the fraudsters allegedly posed as officials from the RBI and Enforcement Directorate, demanding ₹10 lakh as a “security deposit.” Growing suspicious, the doctor contacted other group members and discovered they had also been duped in a similar manner. He then approached the police and filed a complaint.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and begun further investigation.
