CHANDIGARH: Power demand in Punjab and Haryana dipped following high-velocity winds and rain lashed parts of two states in the early hours of Thursday after electricity poles and trees were up[rooted.
In Punjab the power supply was disrupted in Muktsar, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fazilka, Barnala, Sangrur, Patiala, Malerkotla, Ludhiana, Mohali and Fatehgarh Sahib districts. The Punjab load was reduced to 2463 MW and after the repair of transmission lines the supply was restored in many places.
Due to lesser load all the running thermal units are operating at half load. On Wednesday the maximum demand in Punjab was 10133 MW with supply of 2027 lakh units.
In Haryana Kurukshetra, Ambala, Yamuna Nagar and Karnal districits under UHBVN suffered power disruption. The power demand in UHBVN was reduced to 960 MW. Kurukshetra (24MW). Karnal (32 MW ), Ambala (62 MW)and Yamuna Nagar (93MW), Rohtak (130MW) reported major dip in power supply after disruptions. In Haryana maximum demand on Wednesday was 8905 MW with supply of 1983 lakh units.
The electricity was restored in most parts of both states after few hours except where major break down occurred.
