Chandigarh Police’s Operation Cell has achieved a major breakthrough in the Punjab University shootout and robbery case by arresting four alleged shooters linked to foreign-based gangsters.
According to police officials, the accused were close associates and shooters working for gangster Shaganpreet Singh and Doni Bal, who are reportedly operating from abroad. During the operation, police recovered three sophisticated automatic pistols and 16 live cartridges from their possession.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gaurav alias Gola, Rajat alias Gudda, Aryan — all residents of Amritsar — and Ravi Nijjar alias Kali from Sirsa, Haryana. Police said the arrests have not only helped solve the Punjab University firing case but have also uncovered links to two sensational murder cases in Punjab and the Khanna firing case.
During the investigation, police revealed that the shooters had reached the parking area of the Botany Department at Punjab University on March 17, 2026, with the intention of attacking SOPU leader Jashan Jawandha. After the incident, the accused allegedly escaped through the rear gate on a scooter and later snatched a Bullet motorcycle at gunpoint near a temple before fleeing towards Mohali.
Police further stated that the shooters were in direct contact with foreign-based gangster Shaganpreet Singh and received instructions through encrypted social media applications. Investigators also found that money was transferred to them online during their absconding period to cover expenses, including drugs and other needs.
