Punjab and Chandigarh have witnessed a sudden change in weather conditions starting Monday (April 28), bringing relief from the intense heatwave. Several areas have been covered with clouds, while rain has been reported in Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Jalandhar.
The Meteorological Centre Chandigarh has issued an orange alert for the next two days, warning of thunderstorms and lightning activity. During this period, wind speeds are expected to reach 50 to 60 kmph. Officials have also confirmed that there is no possibility of a heatwave in the coming days.
On Monday, there was no significant change in maximum temperatures, which still remain around three degrees above normal on average. The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Bathinda at 43°C.
According to the weather department, strong winds are likely in around 20 districts, while light to moderate rainfall is expected across 23 districts. The affected districts include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, SBS Nagar (Nawanshahr), Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, and Patiala, where thunderstorms and rain are also expected.
