In view of the growing impact of the global oil crisis, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken major steps to promote fuel conservation and strengthen digital functioning within the judicial system.
According to directions issued by the High Court administration, most court hearings will now be encouraged through video conferencing.
The court has instructed the Registrar to ensure that video links are provided to all parties on time and that technical support remains strong so that lawyers and judicial officers do not face difficulties during virtual proceedings.
The High Court has also advised judges to adopt car-pooling as part of the fuel-saving initiative. Under this arrangement, multiple judges may travel to court in a single vehicle to help reduce petrol and diesel consumption.
At the administrative level, the court has introduced another significant change by allowing up to 33 percent of employees in various branches and sections to work from home wherever feasible. However, the administration has clarified that essential staff will continue to remain present in offices to ensure that judicial work is not affected.
The High Court believes that such practical and small-scale measures can collectively make a meaningful contribution toward fuel conservation while also improving digital efficiency in court operations.
