Punjab Police's Anti-Narcotics Cell has arrested two youths from Amritsar and recovered a large quantity of heroin along with suspected drug money during a crackdown on drug trafficking activities.
According to police officials, the accused were intercepted near village Panniwala Mahla on the Abohar–Sriganganagar Road after they aroused suspicion. During a search operation, police recovered 1.005 kg of heroin and ₹3.90 lakh in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug-related activities.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Yuvraj Singh, a resident of Antaryami Colony, Ranjha Di Haveli in Amritsar, and Jagjit Singh, a resident of Jhite Kalan near Golden Gate, Amritsar.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that Jagjit Singh had been operating a roadside dhaba on the Suratgarh–Bikaner Road and was allegedly involved in poppy husk trafficking. Investigators believe he came into contact with Yuvraj Singh at a gurdwara in Amritsar, following which the two allegedly became involved in drug-related activities.
Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the narcotics and uncover any wider trafficking network linked to the accused.
