Laljit Singh Bhullar participates in Budget discussion in Punjab Vidhan Sabha
Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-
Punjab Transport and Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar today participated in the discussion on the Punjab Budget 2026–27 in the Punjab Legislative Assembly and described the Budget as progressive, inclusive and strongly focused on the welfare of the common people.
Taking part in the deliberations, the Minister commended the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema for presenting a comprehensive and forward-looking Budget that reflects the Punjab Government’s firm commitment to fulfilling its guarantees and ensuring inclusive growth across the State.
Bhullar stated that the Budget has been carefully designed to strengthen social and economic security for citizens, particularly for economically weaker sections, women and marginalized communities. He said the government has taken several important steps to expand welfare initiatives and ensure that the benefits of governance reach every household in Punjab.
Highlighting the government’s healthcare initiatives, the Minister referred to the Mukh mantri Sehat Bima Yojana, under which free medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh is being provided to eligible families. He said the scheme will provide significant relief to poor and needy households, ensuring that families are not forced to face financial hardship in times of medical emergencies.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to women empowerment, Bhullar said that the financial assistance scheme providing ₹1000 per month to women from general category families and ₹1500 per month to women from Scheduled Caste families will strengthen the economic independence of women and enable them to contribute more effectively to household stability and welfare. He described the initiative as a “Sanman Rashi”, aimed at promoting dignity and financial security for women across the State.
The Minister further stated that Scheduled Caste communities have historically faced discrimination and socio-economic challenges. Keeping this in view, the government has taken steps to provide additional support to these communities so that their children can receive better education and access opportunities that will enable them to progress and contribute meaningfully to society.
Bhullar also highlighted that despite financial constraints and reduced support from the Centre, the Punjab Government has made significant progress in strengthening its revenue base. This, he said, has enabled the government to expand public welfare initiatives and improve service delivery.
He added that while previous governments had burdened the State with substantial debt without ensuring corresponding public benefits, the present government is focused on responsible financial management and on ensuring that public resources are utilized for the welfare of the people.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Bhullar stated that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab will continue to work with dedication and transparency to safeguard the interests of farmers, workers, women and disadvantaged sections of society.
