The crisis is of the AAP govt, not the people-Pargat Singh
Punjabis demonstrated unmatched resilience and compassion during the floods.
“Govts are meant to have a conscience—but in Punjab, the AAP government’s conscience is dead,” says Pargat Singh
Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-
Padma Shri Pargat Singh, MLA and Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, today strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party’s newly announced Mission Chardi Kala, calling it nothing more than a diversion from the government’s own failures.
“Punjab has always lived in Chardi Kala. Even in the face of the recent devastating floods, Punjabis opened their hearts and stood with one another. The real crisis is not of Punjab or its people—it is of the AAP government, which abandoned the state in its darkest hour. A government must have a conscience; sadly, the conscience of this AAP regime is already dead,” Pargat Singh said.
Drawing a parallel, he added: “Just as the BJP at the Centre pretends nothing existed before 2014, the AAP government wants people to believe Punjab only began in 2022. This is an insult to Punjab’s distinguished past and unwavering resilience.”
Pargat Singh said that Punjab’s dignity lies in the spirit of its people, not in political gimmicks. “During the floods, Punjabis themselves proved what Chardi Kala means. Yet it was the AAP government that pushed Punjab into this man-made disaster. Thousands of villages were submerged, embankments collapsed, and lives were upended. The people of Punjab will never forgive this betrayal.”
He further said the government is now using Mission Chardi Kala as a fundraising drive in India and abroad, while refusing to answer hard questions. “The state officially recorded ₹23,000 crore in damages, but where was the government’s preparedness? No pre-flood planning meetings were held, despite repeated warnings. Even the ₹12,000 crore SDRF funds available for disaster management were not utilized. Instead of accountability, the Chief Minister now blames the Centre, trying to absolve himself of responsibility.”
Pargat Singh concluded by saying that Punjab’s people will always rise in Chardi Kala, but they will no longer tolerate governments that trade on their spirit while failing in their duties.
