The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted an internationally operated drug trafficking network, arresting five smugglers and recovering 7.05 kilograms of heroin. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around ₹60 crore in the international market.

A press conference is scheduled for later this afternoon, where the Police Commissioner is expected to share detailed information about the operation and the investigation.

According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were in contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler and were supplying narcotics across Punjab under his directions. The network was involved in cross-border smuggling and specifically targeting youth, further aggravating the drug menace in the region.

Two FIRs Registered, Probe Intensifies

Two separate FIRs have been registered under the provisions of the NDPS Act at Cheharta Police Station and Cantonment Police Station in Amritsar. Authorities have launched a detailed probe to identify all links in the network and dismantle the entire operation.
