Punjab's rail services were disrupted on Saturday after the Qaumi Insaf Morcha staged a rail track blockade in Fatehgarh, demanding the release of imprisoned Sikhs. The protest, which lasted from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, affected the movement of several passenger trains, forcing the Railways to divert some services and delay others.
According to railway officials, the Katra–New Delhi Vande Bharat Express was diverted as a precautionary measure. Instead of operating on the usual Ludhiana–Ambala route, the train was rerouted via Ludhiana–Chandigarh–Ambala, allowing it to continue its journey with minimal inconvenience to passengers.
Long-distance trains faced the greatest impact due to the blockade. The Malwa Express, bound for Ludhiana, was halted at Sadhugarh railway station, while the Amrapali Express also ran behind schedule because of the disruption. The delays caused inconvenience to a large number of passengers traveling across the state.
Railway authorities monitored the situation throughout the protest and resumed normal operations after the blockade was lifted in the afternoon.
