The weather in Punjab is likely to change from October 7, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a three-day yellow alert from October 7 to 9.

During this period, several parts of the state may experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Gusty winds with speeds of around 30 to 40 kmph are also likely at some places.

The weather alert has been issued for Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar and Mohali districts.

The expected rainfall and strong winds could bring down temperatures across the state. While nights may become cooler, residents are also likely to get some relief from the prevailing daytime heat.

Punjab has largely witnessed dry weather since the withdrawal of the monsoon. According to the weather department, the state's average maximum temperature increased by 0.4 degrees Celsius over the past 24 hours, although it remained close to normal levels.

The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded in Bathinda at 38.3 degrees Celsius.

With the weather system expected to become active from October 7, residents in the alerted districts are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds.
