Due to the constant initiative by Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha in Parliament, the central government has decided to bring back historical artifacts related to Maharaja Ranjit Singh from abroad. This initiative is seen not only as an effort to preserve India’s history and heritage but also as a major achievement for Raghav Chadha.

On July 24, 2024, during a special discussion in the Rajya Sabha, Raghav Chadha raised the matter of bringing back Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s royal throne from Britain. He called it a vital step for India’s cultural heritage and urged the government to expedite the process of reclaiming all ancient and historic artifacts belonging to India.

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in a letter to Raghav Chadha, stated that since independence, 358 historical artifacts have been brought back to India, 345 of which were reclaimed in the last decade. He emphasized that the government is actively working under the 1972 Antiquities and Art Treasures Act and international agreements to repatriate these valuable artifacts.

The government has assured that diplomatic channels will be used to bring back not just artifacts related to Maharaja Ranjit Singh but also other significant treasures.
