Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched a sharp counterattack on a provocative statement made by Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif in Barrackpore on tuesday.
Referring to history, Rajnath Singh reminded Pakistan of the consequences it faced 55 years ago, alluding to the Bangladesh Liberation War, when the country was split into two. He issued a stern warning, saying that if Pakistan even dares to cast an eye towards Bengal this time, “only God knows into how many pieces it could be divided.” He advised the Pakistani leadership to exercise restraint and learn from history.
Speaking at an election rally in Barrackpore, Singh also responded to remarks made by Abhishek Banerjee of the All India Trinamool Congress, who had questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained silent on Pakistan’s threat.
Hitting back, Singh said that as the Defence Minister of the country, he himself is addressing the issue and it is not necessary for the Prime Minister to respond to every matter. He emphasized that the government’s stance on India’s security and defence is clear, adding firmly that he is fully authorized to speak on matters related to national defence.
