Haryana cannot be allotted land for a separate Assembly in Chandigarh: Dhaliwal

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab’s Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal welcomed the rejection of Haryana’s demand for land in Chandigarh to build a separate Assembly and termed it as victory of the people of Punjab.
Dhaliwal said that Haryana had been demanding land in Chandigarh for a separate Assembly for a very long time. He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, our government and party had already told the Centre that Haryana cannot be given land in Chandigarh to build a separate Assembly.
Dhaliwal said that Chandigarh belongs to Punjab and is built on Punjab’s land. He welcomed the recent decision of the Centre in this matter. He said that this was possible only because we took a firm stand on this issue over the past years. He described this victory not as that of any party, but as “a victory of all Punjabis.” He also reminded that the Chief Minister had written letters to the Home Minister and the Prime Minister in this regard at that time.
Dhaliwal urged the Centre to clarify that Chandigarh belongs to Punjab. He said that no one else has any claim here, and we do not accept anyone else’s claim either. Chandigarh is Punjab’s and will remain Punjab’s. He demanded that the Punjabi language be further strengthened in Chandigarh. He said that Punjabi is our mother tongue and it should be implemented in Chandigarh in the same manner as it is implemented in Punjab.
