Doctors at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital achieved a major medical success after removing a screw lodged in a young man’s lung for nearly three years through a bronchoscopy procedure. The 27-year-old youth from Kulthina in Sirmaur district had approached the Pulmonary Department with a persistent cough complaint that had troubled him for years.
After a detailed examination, Assistant Professor Dr. Surabhi Jaggi identified the issue and successfully removed the nearly one-inch-long screw from the patient’s lung using bronchoscopy. The entire procedure was completed in just seven minutes on the very first attempt.
According to doctors, the patient had been visiting several private and government hospitals for the past three years but failed to get proper treatment. Despite undergoing multiple tests, including X-rays, CT scans and MRI scans, the exact cause of his persistent cough could not be detected.
The patient later visited IGMC, where doctors reviewed his previous medical reports and advised a bronchoscopy examination. During the procedure, doctors discovered the screw lodged inside the lung and removed it safely.
Doctors said the patient’s condition has improved significantly and he is now completely healthy. Dr. Surabhi Jaggi stated that the screw was removed smoothly and the patient is recovering well.
