Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort on August 15, a full dress rehearsal was conducted in the national capital on Wednesday. In view of the rehearsal, traffic restrictions were imposed in several parts of Delhi.
City has been placed under a massive security cover, with barricades installed at multiple locations and police personnel deployed across key areas.
Intensive vehicle checking is being carried out at the Aya Nagar border and other entry points to prevent any untoward incident during the Independence Day celebrations.
Delhi Police said the measures have been taken to ensure a peaceful and secure event. The primary objective of the restrictions is to strengthen security arrangements and avoid any disruption during the national ceremony.
Keeping security concerns and public convenience in mind, Delhi Police had already issued a traffic advisory on August 12, advising commuters to avoid routes around the Red Fort area and use alternative roads wherever possible.
Security arrangements across the national capital have been significantly intensified ahead of the celebrations. Additional police forces have been deployed at sensitive locations, and surveillance has been enhanced across important public and strategic areas.
Officials said elaborate security preparations are in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the Independence Day function and maintain law and order throughout the city.
