Security agencies have been put on alert in Jalandhar after slogans targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appeared on the walls of the Red Cross Bhawan ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposed visit to the city on September 30.
The slogans, including “BJP Bhagao” (Drive BJP Away) and “Punjab Da Hal – Khalistan”, were reportedly found on the walls. The writings were later covered with black paint.
Shah is scheduled to address a rally near Lily Resort on the GT Road in the Paragpur area of Jalandhar. Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has claimed responsibility for the graffiti in a video released along with the slogans. In the video, Pannun alleged that the site where the slogans were written had earlier housed a BJP office. He also made allegations against the BJP over the drug issue in Punjab.
Jalandhar DCP Aditya Warrier said authorities received information about the graffiti in the morning. A special team has been constituted, and a case has been registered. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify those responsible.
