Suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who was arrested in a corruption case, has not received any immediate relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. During the hearing on his regular bail petition on Friday, the High Court adjourned the matter until July 7 without issuing any interim directions.
Bhullar has once again approached the High Court seeking regular bail. Earlier, after failing to secure relief from the High Court, he had moved the Supreme Court. However, the apex court dismissed his bail plea on April 10.
The Supreme Court had, however, granted him the liberty to file a fresh bail application if the trial in the case did not begin within two months. Citing that observation, Bhullar has now filed a fresh regular bail petition before the High Court.
In his plea, Bhullar argued that the investigation has been completed and the police have already filed the chargesheet before the trial court. He also contended that most of the prosecution witnesses are government officials and that he remains under suspension, leaving no possibility of influencing witnesses or tampering with evidence.
