A seemingly minor dispute over children picking corn (maize cobs) from a field in Tarn Taran district escalated into a violent clash, leaving at least three people seriously injured after swords were used and alleged gunfire broke out.
The incident took place in Thathgarh village, where eyewitnesses reported that the confrontation between two groups quickly turned chaotic. According to locals, sharp-edged weapons were openly brandished and the sound of gunshots created panic across the area.
The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are undergoing treatment.
Police teams reached the spot soon after receiving information and managed to bring the situation under control. Officials said that an investigation has been initiated and action will be taken based on statements from both sides.
Children’s mistake, apology still led to attack
The clash reportedly occurred between the families of Shamsher Singh and Kashmir Singh. Shamsher Singh, who is currently undergoing treatment, said that his children had unintentionally plucked some corn from a neighbor’s field. He claimed that he had already apologized for the incident.
However, he alleged that despite the apology, the opposing side remained hostile and later called unidentified attackers, who launched a violent assault using sharp weapons. He further claimed that gunshots were fired to spread panic, leaving him seriously injured.
On the other hand, members of the opposing group have also sustained injuries in the incident.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and responsibility.
