Punjab Newsline | Amritsar/Jalandhar
Panic gripped parts of Punjab on Tuesday night after two powerful explosions were reported near Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters in Jalandhar and Amritsar within a span of three hours. The back-to-back blasts created a sense of fear among residents and put the state’s security agencies on high alert.
Punjab Police have initiated investigations into both incidents, while a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is also heading to the state to assist in the probe. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav visited the Amritsar blast site to assess the situation and is expected to brief the media.
CCTV Footage Offers Leads
CCTV footage from both locations has surfaced, which could prove crucial in the investigation. In Jalandhar, visuals reportedly show a man fleeing the scene moments after a scooter explosion. Meanwhile, footage from Amritsar captures the loud sound of the blast, highlighting the intensity of the incident.
Security Agencies on Alert
The twin blasts have raised fresh concerns over the law and order situation in Punjab. Officials suspect possible links to cross-border elements, Khalistani terror networks, and a growing nexus between gangsters and extremist groups aiming to destabilize the region.
Pattern of Recent Incidents
The latest incidents come amid a series of security breaches in recent months. In April 2026, a low-intensity IED blast was reported on the Patiala-Rajpura railway track. A grenade attack outside a BJP office in Chandigarh’s Sector 37 had earlier caused alarm. In January 2026, an explosion occurred on the Sirhind railway track ahead of Republic Day. Additionally, a grenade was hurled at a CIA office in Moga in November 2025, and a blast outside a religious site in Amritsar’s Khandwala area in March 2025 also drew national attention.
Authorities are now intensifying surveillance and coordination between agencies as efforts continue to identify and apprehend those responsible for the latest attacks.
