Two terrorists were killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday morning, officials said.
The encounter took place in the Jumagund area of the Keran sector, where security forces have launched a search operation. The operation is currently underway, and further details are expected once the search is completed.
The incident was initially being linked to a possible infiltration attempt. However, officials clarified that it has not yet been established whether the terrorists were attempting to infiltrate across the LoC.
According to a senior defence official, security personnel noticed suspicious movement near the LoC in the Jumagund area at around 3:30 am on Saturday.
The troops challenged the suspects and attempted to stop them, following which an exchange of fire broke out between the two sides.
Officials confirmed that two terrorists had been killed in the encounter. Security forces are continuing their search operation in the area to ensure that no other threats remain.
