Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh–
Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij said that under the Swamitva Scheme, the Municipal Council Ambala Sadar has so far received around Rs.33 crore in revenue, and residents of Ambala Cantonment are taking full benefit of the scheme.

He informed that under the scheme, the Municipal Council Ambala Sadar has approved 58% of tehbazari, rent, and lease applications that are over 20 years old. So far, registrations have been completed in 438 such cases, and the applicants have become shop owners. He said that instructions have been issued to municipal officials to expedite the remaining pending cases so that more people can gain ownership of their shops.

It is worth noting that the Swamitva Scheme was implemented in Ambala Cantonment due to the efforts of Cabinet Minister Anil Vij. Under this scheme, shopkeepers who had been operating under tehbazari, lease, or rent for more than 20 years were to be given ownership rights to their shops.

Vij said that under the Swamitva Scheme, the Municipal Council Ambala Sadar invited applications from tenants who had occupied municipal council shops for more than 20 years to grant them ownership rights. A total of 734 tenants applied, out of which 535 cases have been approved, and registrations have been completed for 417 tenants—who are now no longer tenants but shop owners. These shop owners can now also construct multi-storey buildings on their premises.

Cabinet Minister said that 223 tehbazari applications were received under the Swamitva Scheme, out of which 126 cases have been approved, and 21 have already been registered. The registration process for the remaining cases is being carried out swiftly. Similarly, 190 lease applications were received by the Municipal Council, and further actions are underway.

Due to the efforts of Vij, Ambala Cantonment was included under the Swamitva Scheme. Earlier, the scheme’s benefits were not available in Ambala Cantonment due to it being an excise area. However, Minister Anil Vij fought for the residents and ensured the scheme was implemented there.

Shops located on Railway Road, Rai Market, Gandhi Market, Sabzi Mandi, Rambagh Road, Bus Stand, and several other locations under tehbazari and rental agreements in Ambala Cantonment have now been granted ownership rights.
