Vigilance Bureau arrests Ex Panchayat member for accepting Rs.1,40,000 bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, on Tuesday, arrested an Ex-Panchayat member Karnail Singh, a resident of village Deogarh, Patiala district while accepting a bribe of Rs 1,40,000 on behalf of police personnel.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Shera Singh, a resident of same village. He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and informed that a FIR under NDPS Act had been registered against him at police station Ghagga, Patiala district. He alleged that Incharge of CIA Samana Sub Inspector (SI) Manprit Singh and Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Pargat Singh, posted at CIA Samana, Patiala district were demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh to help him in this police case and they have conveyed to him to handover this bribe money to their close person Karnail Singh.
The spokesperson further added that after preliminary enquiry of this complaint, the VB team laid a trap and nabbed the said accused Karnail Singh while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 1,40,000 from the complainant on behalf of SI Manprit and ASI Pargat Singh in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at VB police station Patiala range against the accused Karnail Singh. He informed that role of above said SI Manprit Singh and ASI Pargat Singh would be probed during the further investigation and would be nominated accordingly in this case.
