Unmukt Chand calls 15-year-old batter the “next big thing” as India lift record sixth U-19 World Cup title

India’s Under-19 cricket team created history by clinching a record sixth U-19 World Cup title, and at the heart of this memorable triumph was a sensational knock from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old prodigy produced one of the most explosive innings ever seen at this level, smashing a breathtaking 175 off just 80 balls to demolish England in the final. His fearless batting display not only sealed India’s dominance but also earned glowing praise from former U-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand, who described Vaibhav as the “next big thing in Indian cricket.”

The final, played under immense pressure, witnessed India’s young captain Ayush Mathre making a crucial decision at the toss by opting to bat first. That call proved decisive. Former captain Unmukt Chand highlighted the importance of setting a big total in a high-stakes final, noting that India completely out-batted England. He credited the team’s composure and intent, stating that once runs are on the board in a final, the confidence and celebration naturally follow.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s innings stood out even more given the match situation. After India lost an early wicket in the first three overs, expectations were that the young batter would play cautiously and focus on building a partnership. Instead, Vaibhav turned the game on its head with fearless stroke play. He reached his century in just 55 balls, setting a new record for the fastest hundred in an Under-19 World Cup final, and never allowed England’s bowlers to settle.

Unmukt Chand praised Vaibhav’s mindset, pointing out that such attacking intent is rarely seen in a World Cup final, especially from someone so young. According to him, Vaibhav’s innings was a clear sign of his extraordinary talent and mental strength, qualities that set future stars apart from the rest.

While celebrating the team’s success, Unmukt also offered valuable advice to India’s young champions. He urged them to remain patient before making the jump to senior international cricket, warning that the journey can be challenging. He emphasized that success may not come immediately, but staying calm, working hard, and remaining passionate are key. According to him, this World Cup victory is a special moment, and if the players stay grounded and hungry, great things are bound to follow.
