A Final Farewell to Harish Rana : Last Rites Performed at Delhi's Green Park Crematorium, A 13-Year Wait Comes to an End

A 13-year-long wait marked by pain and uncertainty has finally come to an end for 32-year-old Harish Rana, a resident of Rajnagar Extension in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Harish passed away on Tuesday (24 March) evening at AIIMS Delhi after being granted permission for euthanasia by the Supreme Court of India. On Wednesday (25 March) morning, Harish Rana’s mortal remains were brought to a cremation ground in Green Park, Delhi. His last rites were performed in accordance with Hindu traditions and the spiritual practices of the Brahma Kumaris.

Grief in Residential Society

Harish lived in Raj Empire Society in Rajnagar Extension, Ghaziabad. News of his passing cast a pall of gloom over the community. Residents expressed deep sorrow and extended their condolences to the bereaved family. Details of the funeral were shared on the society’s WhatsApp group around 9:00 uneral. 

Harish had been in a coma since 2013

Harish had been in a coma since 2013, following an accident at Chandigarh University. After years without any sign of recovery, his father, Ashok Rana, filed a petition seeking euthanasia. The Supreme Court approved the request on March 11, after which Harish was admitted to AIIMS on March 14. The procedure was carried out under the supervision of specialist doctors, and he passed away after life-support systems were withdrawn.

Family Roots in Himachal Pradesh

Harish Rana’s family originally hails from Paleta village in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. His father, Ashok Rana, moved to Delhi in 1989 and worked as a chef in a reputed hotel in Mumbai. After Harish’s accident in 2013, he returned to Delhi to take care of the family.
