In Ludhiana’s Kumkalan area, police have registered an FIR against five people in the murder of Paraminder Tiwari, the Congress block president of Machhiwara. The accused include Jai Singh, his sons Ravi Kumar and Amrish, and another villager, Sunil, while the main accused, Ajay Kumar, Jai Singh’s third son, remains at large. The FIR was filed by Tiwari’s nephew, Shani Sharma, who stated that his uncle was sitting outside his building when the accused attacked him with a khuḷhāṛī (axe), killing him on the spot.
The four arrested accused work as laborers in local factories and were taken into custody on the day of the murder, with their arrests now officially recorded. Despite this, the primary suspect, Ajay Kumar, has evaded police capture, prompting anger among the local community and political workers.
In response to the killing, Congress workers and villagers staged a protest and blocked Machhiwara Road, demanding the immediate arrest of the main accused and raising slogans against the Punjab Police. Paraminder Tiwari’s body remains at the Fortis Hospital mortuary, and Congress area in-charge Raja Gill emphasized that swift action is needed, as the main accused is still not in custody.
