The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday relieved MP Raghav Chadha from his position as Deputy Leader of the Rajya Sabha. Ashok Mittal, also a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, has been appointed to the role in his place. The party informed the Rajya Sabha Secretariat of this change through an official letter.

The letter requested that Chadha not be given time to speak on behalf of the party in the House. Raghav Chadha has represented Punjab in the Rajya Sabha since 2022, and his term continues until 2028.

The party has not cited any specific reason for the decision. Reports suggest that Chadha had distanced himself from the party over time and had not been making statements regarding AAP. In the Rajya Sabha, he had focused on issues like gig workers’ rights and school fees.

Ashok Mittal, the new Deputy Leader, is a resident of Jalandhar and the founder and chancellor of Lovely Professional University. He became a Rajya Sabha MP in 2022. Before entering politics, Mittal was a successful entrepreneur. His family owns the Lovely Group, which has interests in the automobile sector as well as the sweets business, including Lovely Sweets.
