India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, has outlined the country’s clear stance on the ongoing conflict involving Iran and the Gulf region, urging restraint and prioritization of civilian safety.

Speaking at the United Nations, Harish said that India had expressed deep concern from the very beginning of the conflict, which erupted on February 28, 2026. He emphasized that India has consistently called on all nations involved to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and ensure the protection of civilians.

India has reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective ways to de-escalate tensions. Harish urged all parties to resolve their differences peacefully, refrain from aggressive actions, and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every nation.

He also expressed concern over attacks on commercial shipping during the conflict, noting that Indian sailors lost their lives in these incidents. Calling such attacks unacceptable, Harish stressed that targeting commercial vessels not only endangers innocent lives but also disrupts global trade.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, he said that uninterrupted movement and trade through this vital maritime route must be ensured. Any threat or obstruction in the area, he added, is a violation of international law and cannot be tolerated.

India has once again appealed to all countries to uphold international law and ensure the safe and secure passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, safeguarding global trade and stability.
