 Wheat procurement in Punjab mandis reaches 100 percent : Barsat

3 percent increase in government procurement compared to last year
131.94 lakh metric tons of wheat arrived in mandis

During the ongoing Rabi season 2024-25, wheat procurement in Punjab mandis have reached 100 percent. Punjab mandis have received 131.94 lakh metric tons of wheat so far, out of which 131.93 lakh metric tons have been procured and127.22 lakh metric tons of crops already lifted. This information was provided by S. Harchand Singh Barsat, Chairman of Punjab Mandi Board. He informed that government procurement has increased by 3 percent compared to last year. Procurement processes are running smoothly and farmers who have sold their crops are being paid promptly, under which Rs 28236.6 crore has been paid.
He further informed that during the rabi season 2024-25, witnessed a bumper arrival of wheat in mandis of Punjab. Procurement works are being efficiently managed by the Punjab Mandi Board and Market Committees' officials and staff, ensuring transparency and honesty in their duties. During the season, Teams of officials have been formed to solve problems, which has been faced by farmers, traders and laborers promptly. S. Barsat expressed gratitude to all officials, employees, agencies, traders, and farmers for their support in carrying out procurement works smoothly.
Providing further information, S. Barsat mentioned that 131.94 lakh metric tons of wheat has been received in 1907 mandis and 826 temporary procurement centers of Punjab Mandi Board, out of which 131.93 lakh metric tons of wheat have been procured. Of this, 124.45 lakh metric tons of wheat have been procured by government agencies and 7.48 lakh metric tons by private level. He informed that 127.22 lakh metric tons of wheat have been lifted from mandis. PUNGRAIN has procured 39,90,766 metric tons, FCI has procured 3,27,804 metric tons, MARKFED has procured 32,56,186 metric tons, PUNSUP has procured 29,78,396 metric tons and Warehouse has procured 18,91,922 metric tons of wheat. Sangrur district in Punjab has witnessed the highest wheat arrival and procurement so far. Here, procurement of 12,39,792 metric tons of wheat has been done at government and private levels
