Bibi Jagir Kaur welcomes lifting of ban on Sikh children wearing kirpan in schools in New South Wales, Australia

AMRITSAR: Bibi Jagir Kaur President Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has welcomed the lifting of the ban on Sikh children wearing kirpans in schools in New South Wales, Australia.

She said that in recent times, the use of kirpan by Sikh children in government schools in New South Wales, Australia has been banned, which was strongly opposed by the Sikh community, including the SGPC.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said that Kakars were an important and integral part of the lives of Sikhs and it was intolerable to ban them.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the Sikh leaders and Gurdwara Committees of Australia were in constant touch with the Education Department to resolve the issue.

She said that it was a matter of great pleasure that the education department has allowed the Sikh children studying in schools to wear kirpan.
