The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered a dominant performance in Haryana’s urban local body elections, winning six out of seven civic bodies that went to polls. The party emerged victorious in the municipal corporations of Sonipat, Panchkula and Ambala, along with the municipal council of Rewari and municipalities of Dharuhera and Sampla.

However, in a notable upset, 22-year-old independent candidate Reema Soni, supported by Congress and INLD, won the Uklana municipality election in Hisar district.

In Sonipat Municipal Corporation, BJP candidate Rajiv Jain secured victory, while Akshita Saini won the mayoral contest in Ambala Municipal Corporation. In Panchkula, BJP’s Shyam Lal Bansal emerged victorious.

The BJP also won in Rewari Municipal Council, where Vinita Pippal defeated Congress candidate Neharika by a huge margin of 21,455 votes. Vinita received 44,521 votes, while Neharika got 23,066 votes. Independent candidate Dr. Meenu Dahinwal finished third with 3,103 votes.

In Dharuhera municipality, BJP candidate Satya Narayan won the election, while BJP’s Praveen secured victory in Sampla municipality, considered a politically influential region of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini described the results as a “victory of public trust.” He said BJP mayors already governed eight of Haryana’s 11 municipal corporations, and now all civic bodies would work in coordination with both the state and central governments under a “triple-engine government.”

In Panchkula, BJP candidates also performed strongly in ward elections. Parth Gupta won Ward No. 6 by 866 votes, Raj Kumar Jain won Ward No. 8 by 948 votes, Harendra Malik secured Ward No. 9 by 1,623 votes, while Shekhar won Ward No. 10 by a narrow margin of 59 votes.

In Sampla municipality, out of 16 wards, 10 were won by independent candidates while BJP secured victory in six wards.

Haryana Urban Local Bodies and Revenue Minister Vipul Goel termed the BJP’s success a result of the work done by the Nayab Singh Saini government over the past one-and-a-quarter years. He said the election results reflected the public’s approval of the government’s development agenda.
