CM directs officials to prepare a detailed plan for Gurugram and Faridabad
Three waste-to-energy plants to be set up in Gurugram and Faridabad
Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh –
Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini today chaired a high-level meeting to review the progress of the cleanliness campaign programme in the state. The meeting discussed in detail strengthening sanitation arrangements in urban and rural areas, modernizing the solid waste management system and making the campaign a mass movement through public participation. Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel was also present in the meeting.
The Chief Minister directed officials to prepare a comprehensive and detailed action plan, especially for Gurugram and Faridabad, so that a permanent solution to the problem of solid waste disposal in these districts can be ensured. He said that modern technology and scientific methods should be used to implement cleanliness efforts on the ground.
It was decided in the meeting that waste-to-energy plants would be established in Faridabad, Manesar, and Gurugram, through which the solid waste generated daily would be converted into energy for electricity production. The work of establishing these plants will begin in the coming months, and within the next 24 months these plants will become fully operational.
These waste-to-energy plants will have many benefits. Electricity will be produced directly from waste through these plants, which will reduce dependence on traditional energy sources such as coal and petroleum. The electricity generated here will be added to the grid to meet the energy needs of the cities. This will increase Haryana’s clean energy production capacity and the state will move forward in the direction of sustainable development. The operation and maintenance of these plants will also create large-scale employment and self-employment opportunities at the local level. This initiative will make Haryana a leader in reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment. In the future, these plants will not only help Haryana achieve the goals of the cleanliness mission but also prove to be an inspiring model for other states.
The Chief Minister directed officials that work should be monitored on a time-bound basis and that large-scale public awareness activities should be organized to connect the public with this process so that people themselves can actively cooperate in waste segregation and scientific management.
The Chief Minister said that these energy projects will not only provide great relief to both districts in terms of cleanliness but also give new momentum and strength to the Haryana Shehar Swachhata Abhiyan-2025. He also directed officials to ensure transparency and timeliness in the implementation of the projects and that local bodies should play an active role in this direction.
Saini said that cleanliness is not limited to a government programme but is a social responsibility in which every citizen should play an active role. Municipal corporations must work responsibly and ensure that garbage is collected on time and drains are cleaned regularly.
The Chief Minister said urban bodies that perform better should be rewarded. He said that the government’s goal is to make Haryana a leading state in cleanliness in the country.
Haryana Shehar Swachhata Abhiyan-2025 to make cities clean and beautiful
During the meeting, officials of the Urban Local Bodies Department informed that under the Haryana Shehar Swachhata Abhiyan-2025, being run to make Haryana clean and beautiful, special emphasis is being laid on cleanliness in cities. Under this, focus is being given on ensuring a clean and healthy environment in urban areas, strengthening garbage management, reducing the use of plastic, and increasing awareness among citizens about cleanliness.
In the meeting, it was informed that under this campaign, cleanliness drives will be conducted in government and private offices, tourist and religious places. In addition, 100 percent door-to-door garbage collection will be ensured along with cleaning of C&D waste dumping points, open areas, and vacant plots.
The Chief Minister said that on the occasion of major festivals like Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali, municipal bodies should conduct special campaigns with public participation to ensure cleanliness of streets, markets, and parks.
