Haryana Chief Minister CM Saini has directed the installation of rooftop solar systems in all government buildings to promote clean and green energy in the state. During a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat on budget announcements related to the power (energy) sector, CM Saini instructed officials to expedite the process of installing solar panels in schools, colleges, hospitals, offices, warehouses, and other government buildings.
He also reviewed the progress of the “PM Suryaghar: Free Electricity Scheme” and instructed officials to ensure monthly monitoring and strict accountability to increase rooftop solar installations in households. CM Saini emphasized speeding up the development of large-scale solar parks in the state to strengthen Haryana’s renewable energy capacity.
Additionally, he directed the DISCOMs to immediately remove old and damaged electricity poles from main roads and highways, which would improve both road safety and aesthetics. HPGCL Chairman Shyamlal Mishra informed that as of 20 November 2025, 42,486 rooftop solar installations have been completed in Haryana. The state aims to install 2,22,000 rooftop solar systems by 31 March 2027.
DISCOMs also proposed a ‘Solar Energy Incentive Scheme’ aimed at encouraging government employees and regular bill-paying consumers to adopt rooftop solar. Once approved, this scheme is expected to significantly accelerate solar adoption in the state.
CM Saini stated that energy security is the backbone of economic development and that all power sector targets must be achieved within the set timelines. Officials reported that Haryana is working rapidly towards achieving an electricity availability target of 24,000 MW over the next seven years. The work on a 1x800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal unit in Yamunanagar is also set to begin soon, with the approval process expedited.
