NAWANSHAHR: Bandh has evoked complete response in the district here with all shops, educational institutions, factories, etc lying closed. Farmers have resorted to road blockades at as many as seven places in the district.

This includes three toll plazas on the Ropar-Phagwara National Highway passing through the district. While farmers' organisations led by Kirti Kisan Union have set up a stage at Langroya By-pass, those led by Doaba Kisan Union have blocked traffic at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of martyr Bhagat Singh. Blockades have also been held at Rahon, Mukandpur, Paniali, Behram and Majari.

While essential services including health, weddings and personal emergencies etc have been exempted from the bandh, police too have been deployed in strength at all the protest spots, with Gazetted level officials managing them. Traffic comprising mainly private vehicles has been diverted through villages.

Bandh has been peaceful so far in the district and a fairly large number of people are present at the protest sites.
